Compared to essential oils, botanical hydrosols are mild, easy to use, safe, and affordable. It is one of the most important members of aromatherapy applications and is known as one of the three treasures of aromatherapy, along with essential oils and vegetable oils. Not only can be used directly on the skin as a toner but also can be applied externally or taken internally to regulate skin and internal problem. Next, We have selected four types of flower-based hydrosols that are more commonly used in plant hydrosols.

Lavender

Aroma and Taste

Although the top note of Lavender hydrosol has a strong honey fragrance, and the fragrance is lower than the essential oil, but it is still very recognizable. The taste is a bit like sweet soapy water or eating dried lavender flowers. Many people do not like the taste of lavender hydrosol, and will usually add sugar or mix it with other hydrosols to drink.

Pure lavender hydrosol is very stable and can usually be stored for at least two years at room temperature, away from light, and in a dry environment.

Lavender hydrosol is generally recommended for external use, not because it is dangerous or ineffective when taken internally, but mainly because its taste is not very pleasing. There are many other more palatable hydrosols with similar internal healing properties that can be substituted.

The pH value of lavender hydrosol is usually very close to the pH value of the most "balanced" skin care products, making it ideal for regular use on all skin types. When added to a skin care product, Lavender hydrosol does not alter the original effect of the product, but adds a pleasant fragrance and the cooling healing properties of lavender itself.

Orange Blossom

Orange Blossom hydrosol has a noble, fresh, sensual and gorgeous floral and fruity fragrance, making it one of the most complex scented hydrosol of all. Many people love the scent of neroli hydrosol and often use it as a perfume and toner to spray on their skin.

Characteristics and Usage

Orange Blossom is an antidepressant and sedative with a mildly relaxing effect on the central nervous system, but not so much as to induce sleep. It is also very effective for children with attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder. It can be applied wet on the body or taken internally. Orange Blossom has a positive physical and emotional support effect.

Orange Blossom hydrosol also helps the body's digestive system by stimulating the bile secretion and relieving heartburn and unhurried esophageal reflux. Orange Blossom hydrosol seems to calm the twitching of the digestive tract and dilator muscles, and when combined with basil hydrosol, can help improve the problem of hiatal hernia in the esophagus. When sprayed hydrosol on the abdomen or applied to the digestive tract to relieve bloating, abdominal throbbing, and constipation caused by stress.

Orange Blossom hydrosol has an excellent astringent effect suitable for delicate, sensitive, and oily skin. However, avoid using it on overly dry skin. It can be combined with lavender, rose, and/or geranium purees and used in a 1:4 ratio with water after blending.

Aroma and Taste

Rose hydrosol Smells almost like a fresh rose flower. It has a lemon-like freshness, yet has a moist, cool bouquet and taste. Undiluted Rose hydrosol is too strong and somewhat "invasive" in taste. But when diluted, its rich floral essence becomes delicate, graceful and very tasty.

Rose hydrosol is also very stable and usually has a shelf life of nearly two years or more. However, rose hydrosol made from dried rose petals will begin to fade in scent in the tenth to twelfth month.

Characteristics and Usage

Rose hydrosol is strongly recommended for internal use in diluted form as a hormonal equalizer for women of all ages, especially post-menopausal women. It creates excellent results when combined with essential oils, herbs, and other natural remedies. With its endocrine system balancing effect, it can also address PMS, menstrual pain, and mood swings.

Rose hydrosol has excellent moisturizing properties, increasing and maintaining skin hydration, and is suitable for normal to dry, mature, sensitive, and dull skin.

It has a cooling and very mild astringent effect; Use it in face masks, face steaming, and wet compresses, or add it to any beauty product to bring efficacy or enhance the aroma.

When blended with rock rose hydrosol, it forms an anti-wrinkle treatment and magically improves the unflattering scent of rock rose hydrosol.

It can be used in a bath for relaxation and rejuvenation, in a sitz bath for postpartum care, or as a rinse or body cleanser, and is also a very advanced personal hygiene product.

When traveling, it is recommended to carry a great hydrosol recipe as a "tea". That is the hydrosol of rose, lavender, and Roman chamomile in equal proportions, diluted with water, to help you deal with most daily health problems, from stress and insomnia to sunburn and wound care.

The scent is sweet and honey-like. The apple-like scent seems stronger than Roman Chamomile essential oil but is more layered.

Roman chamomile hydrosol has excellent stability and can be stored normally for more than two years.

Characteristics and Usage

Roman Chamomile Hydrosol is one of the most versatile hydrosols, along with Lavender and Chamomile hydrosol. Roman chamomile hydrosol is the first choice for baby care. It can be used safely from the moment of birth, added to bathwater, or used as a soothing sleep spray at bedtime. Mothers can dilute it and use it to wash their breasts to prevent cracked or sore nipples, and the calming properties of Roman chamomile make breastfeeding time more relaxing and comfortable. Babies will quickly associate the scent of chamomile with "mommy" and "yummy".

Diaper rash redness and pain can be alleviated with diluted chamomile hydrosol or applied directly to delicate skin with Roman chamomile hydrosol + lavender hydrosol.

New mothers can also use it as a wet compressor with a sit-down bath to help with postpartum relief. Homemade baby moistening strips must contain chamomile hydrosol. When your child starts teething, add two or three drops of chamomile hydrosol to a water bottle to help calm diarrhea and gastrointestinal upset. Dilute chamomile hydrosol is often applied to the gums to reduce inflammation, swelling, and pain, and to help ease accompanying irritability. Children like sweet chamomile very much, as long as you try it brings comfort, children will want to use it again.  A light spray of chamomile hydrosol on a bed sheet or in a room can help a child fall asleep.

Roman Chamomile hydrosol is also divine for skincare, calming rashes, irritation, rosacea, acne, prickly heat, and redness of the skin. It can be used to treat burns and sunburns as well as lavender hydrosol. This is the best all-around makeup remover, cleanser, and lotion. Chamomile is quite astringent due to its acidic pH; For very dry, wind moxibustion skin or skin with similar symptoms should not be used alone or for long time use.  Good for acne and oily skin when used with neroli hydrosol;  Use with witch hazel hydrosol to help mature skin and with lavender or geranium hydrosol for very dry skin.

Roman Chamomile is one of the four types of hydrosol recommended by aromatherapists for use as an eyewash, the other three hydrosol species are German chamomile, cornflower, and green myrtle. Using Roman or German chamomile hydrosol as a regular wet compress and eyewash can fight conjunctivitis. Chamomile hydrosol can be used frequently to cleanse the eyes in response to daily air pollution, prolonged exposure to computer screens, and general redness of the eyeballs.

The low pH of this hydrosol makes chamomile ideal for use as an irrigation or sitz bath and can calm scratching and non-infectious inflammation. It is also great for men's itchy crotch and for general daily hygiene. Basically, everyone should have a bottle of Roman Chamomile hydrosol.
